Hungry for the championship, the JRU Heavy Bombers pushed the San Beda Red Lions to the limit when they forced a third and final game for the NCAA crown. But in the end, San Beda’s winning tradition prevailed when they defeated Jose Rizal University 85-69 yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Sam Ekwe, who played in his final year with San Beda, finished the game with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Ekwe was later hailed as the NCAA Finals MVP. Pong Escobal, also in his final year, contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds and nine assists while Ogie Menor added 18 markers.

The Heavy Bombers was led by James Sena with 24 points and eight rebounds while Mark Cagoco chipped in 16 points. But it was unfortunate that they were the only players who scored in double figures.

Congratulations to the San Beda Red Lions for winning their third straight championship and kudos to JRU Heavy Bombers for finishing as a runner-up this season.
