Ateneo Bonfire Incident
October 8, 2008
Ateneo’s bonfire celebration was just classless. Well, not only it was classless, but it was also tasteless and uncalled for. Who would’ve thought that a Catholic school, run by priests, would do such thing? We know that the priests were not directly involved with the incident, but still, the fact that one of their former students orchestrated the name-burning is just unacceptable.
You guys already won the UAAP crown, what more do you want? We don’t have problems with you guys celebrating your victory; just don’t take things too personal. I mean, it’s just basketball, why’d you have to burn planks with people’s names on it. If this thing was done in La Salle’s campus, I bet Ateneo would also be fuming with anger.
But it’s all over now, so I guess it’s all gonna be good, at least for now. I just hope that things like this do not happen again in the coming years.
San Beda Red Lions Captures 3rd Straight NCAA Title
September 30, 2008
Hungry for the championship, the JRU Heavy Bombers pushed the San Beda Red Lions to the limit when they forced a third and final game for the NCAA crown. But in the end, San Beda’s winning tradition prevailed when they defeated Jose Rizal University 85-69 yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Sam Ekwe, who played in his final year with San Beda, finished the game with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Ekwe was later hailed as the NCAA Finals MVP. Pong Escobal, also in his final year, contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds and nine assists while Ogie Menor added 18 markers.
The Heavy Bombers was led by James Sena with 24 points and eight rebounds while Mark Cagoco chipped in 16 points. But it was unfortunate that they were the only players who scored in double figures.
Congratulations to the San Beda Red Lions for winning their third straight championship and kudos to JRU Heavy Bombers for finishing as a runner-up this season.
