The Denver Nuggets are back in the top 8 of the Western Conference after they defeated the fiery Phoenix Suns 126-120. The Nuggets are now ahead of the Golden State Warriors after the latter lost to the San Antonio Spurs 116-92.

Leandro Barbosa made five 3-pointers and finished with team high 27 points. Amare Stoudemire scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Steve Nash added 17 points and 18 assists. Shaquille O’Neal had another great game and posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Grant Hill missed his third straight game due to a groin injury and Raja Bell was ejected after getting two quick technicals in the third period.

Allen Iverson led the game and finished with 31 points. Carmelo Anthony finished with 25 points and 8 rebounds including two crucial rebounds and two free throws in the final 27 seconds of the game. Kenyon Martin had 18 points and 8 rebounds and J.R. Smith added 17 points for the Nuggets.

Returning from a 2 and ½ month absence, Nene saw 10 minutes of action and finished with 4 point and 5 rebounds

This is a crucial win for the Nuggets as they are trying to tighten their hold in the wild Western Conference playoffs race. The Nuggets‘ schedule are in their favor as they are set to face three lottery bound teams in the following days.

Moon Shines Against the Hapless Bulls

Rookie Jamario Moon had a strong game for the Toronto Raptors when they defeated the slumping Chicago Bulls 93-78.  The energetic Moon tallied 15 points and 9 rebounds.  He also showcased his defensive skills when he blocked 6 shots and stole the ball 3 times.  Raptors big man Chris Bosh also had a solid performance and finished the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Bulls saw the return of Luol Deng to their line-up after missing three games due to back spasms.  Deng had 21 points and 9 rebounds.  Ben Gordon contributed 17 points and Kirk Hinrich added 15 for the Bulls.

 

 

Nets Wins Their Third Straight

After dropping six straight games, the New Jersey Nets are making a small streak and have won their last three games.  The Nets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 102-100 in a very exciting match-up.  Down to the last 10 seconds of the regulation, the game was still undecided as both teams refused to accept defeat.  The Lakers outscored the Nets in the first half but the New Jersey squad retaliated and played big in the third period.  It was a seesaw game in the fourth period and the Nets prevailed after holding on to a two point advantage.

Jason Kidd had a solid game and finished with 15 points, 14 assists and 7 rebounds.  Richard Jefferson led the Nets with 27 points and Vince Carter contributed 19 points in a reserve role.  Bostjan Nachbar added 15 points for the Nets.

 

 

Lebron’s Triple-Double Effort Carries Cavs against Pacers 111-106

Lebron James had another impressive night and recorded his fourth triple-double this season.  King James carried the Cleveland Cavaliers on his shoulders and tallied 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as they defeated the Indiana Pacers.  This was his 14th career triple-double.  Drew Gooden had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Sasha Pavlovic contributed 22 points and 5 assists for the Cavs.

Pacers played without All-star big man Jermaine O’Neal for the third straight game due to knee problems.  Jamaal Tinsley almost finished with a triple-double when he posted 24 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds.  Marquis Daniels had 25 points for the Pacers.

Tim Duncan scored 24 points and grabbed 13 boards as the San Antonio Spurs got a successful start on the opening night.  The Spurs were victorious against the Portland Trailblazers on their season opener.
Manu Ginobili chipped in 16 points and 8 assists and Finals MVP Tony Parker added 19 points for the Spurs.
Big man Greg Oden who was drafted No. 1 overall by the Trail Blazers will sit out his entire rookie season due to a knee injury.  Lamarcus Aldridge led the Oden-less Trail Blazers with 27 points.  Martell Webster added 21 points while big man Joel Przybilla contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Trail Blazers.

San Antonio Spurs

Before the season opener started, NBA Commissioner David Stern awarded the San Antonio Spurs their NBA championship rings.  The Spurs swept the Finals series against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. The Spurs won four NBA titles in the last nine seasons.
The championship rings – handmade with 14 karat gold encrusted with 4.5 carats diamonds were handed to the coaching staff and players in alphabetical order.  Spurs stalwart Duncan received his fourth championship ring while teammate Robert Horry got his seventh ring.  Veteran Michael Finley accepted the first championship ring of his career.
