Thoughts on Ortiz-Griffin (UFC 106)
November 29, 2009
It was great to see Tito Ortiz back in the octagon. I mean, I don’t like his loud-mouth, trash talking style, but it was great to see a quality fighter fight inside the octagon. With most of the elite UFC figthers sidelined with injuries, it’s great to have Ortiz back in the mix.
Now with regards to his fight against Forrest Griffin, I thought he did well, at least for the first two rounds. The third round proved to be the turning point of the fight as Griffin practically picked him apart with nasty combinations of strikes and kicks. I had Griffin win the fight with him taking the first and third rounds. Ortiz won the second round when he took down Griffin and pounded him hard.
I’m a Griffin fan so it was good to see him back in his game, though it was evident that it’s still not a 100%. I think his previous loss to UFC champ Anderson Silva still haunts him. But he just needs time, he’ll get over it.
Now there are rumors that Griffin and Ortiz will be the coaches for the next season the The Ultimate Fighter. Now I’d really like to see that happen. I mean, it’s just perfect for the two of them. They’ll have time to recover from their injuries. And the natural story line between them with surely cook up nicely during the TUF season. I really hope this happens.
Now UFC 107 is just two weeks away and I’m expecting a battle between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez.

Thoughts on Boxing
November 23, 2009
Just a quick blabber. First of all, I’d like to congratulate Manny Pacquiao for once again pulling off another impressive victory, this time against Miguel Angel Cotto. As I’ve always practiced I placed my money on Manny’s opponent and naturally, I lost. It’s not that I don’t want Pacquiao to win, I just want to have some fun because nobody here in the Philippines wants to bet against Manny, I mean NOBODY.
With regards to the match, I think Manny really outboxed Cotto. He was moving really well around the ring and his punching was crisp and pricise. He hurt Cotto a couple of times early and i think that set the tone of the match. Towards the end of the match, Cotto was seen backpedalling from the stalking Pacquiao.
Pacquiao’s win against Cotto filled up the internet chatter with talks of Pacquiao-Mayweather. Personally, I’d like to see another match of Manny and Juan Manuel Marquez first. The first two fights of Pacquiao and Marquez both ended in unconvincing fashion. I’d like to see a third match just to settle everything once and for all. As for Mayweather, Pacquiao will never back down. As long as Mayweather agrees to fight Manny, it’s guaranteed that we’ll see it happen.

Presently, I don’t have any updates regarding Z Gorres’ condition. For those who are not aware, Z Gorres suffered a blot clot in his brain in his last fight when he was hit hard late in the last round. He was able to finish the round and win the match by points, but collapsed before he got out of the ring. He was rushed to the hospital and received medical attention.
From what I’ve read, Z’s health improved progressively which is a good thing, but he still needs to undergo some therapy on his way to full recovery. Let’s just all hope for best.
