Dirk Nowitzki shot only 7 out of 20 from the field and made only 19 points but Jason Terry provided the offensive spark by making 11 out of 17 shots finishing with 31 points and eventually defeating the Houston Rockets 107-98. Terry came off the bench to provide instant offense from the bench and he delivered very well. Dallas Mavericks head Coach Avery Johnson tweaked his rotation system this season and placed Devin Harris as the starting point guard and made Terry his first sub. He is expected to play off the bench for the rest of the season.
Josh Howard finished with 21 points and DeSagana Diop posted 10 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for the Mavs. Veteran reserve Jerry Stackhouse added 16 points.
The previously unbeaten Rockets went toe to toe with the Mavs until the final minute of the third quarter when Terry began his offensive onslaught. Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming combined for 56 points for the Rockets but it wasn’t enough to beat the Mavs. The Rockets were hurt in the scoring department since only T-Mac and Yao scored in double figures.
