The Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants and Sta. Lucia Realtors endured do-or-die Sunday battles and will meet in the Finals of the PBA All-Filipino Cup this coming Friday, February 15.
The Giants toppled the Red Bull Barako 83-71 in game seven last Sunday to make their way to the PBA finals. Purefoods head coach Ryan Gregorio will attempt to make history as he tries his shot to become the first Purefoods coach to win the All-Filipino Cup twice. Gregorio won the All-Filipino Cup in 2006. Three other coaches steered Purefoods in winning the All-Filipino championship in the past. Ely Capacio won the AFC in 1991, Chot Reyes in 1993 and Eric Altamirano in 1997. If the Giants win the Cup, the franchise will tie Crispa Redmanizers’ record of five All-Filipino crowns.
This will be the first time for the Realtors to play in the All-Filipino Cup Finals. Sta. Lucia won its first and only championship when they captured the PBA Governor’s Cup in 2001 and the championship match-up with the Giants will give them a chance to add another championship hardware for their franchise. Coach Boyet Fernandez steered Sta. Lucia to overcome the odds with tremendous heart and determination when they beat the Alaska Aces 92-84 in game seven last Sunday. The best of seven match-up with the Giants will test Sta. Lucia’s true character and determination to win the All-Filipino Cup.
The All-Filipino Cup best of seven series starts on Friday, February 15 at Araneta Coliseum, 5:20 in the afternoon.
