Ateneo-La Salle Showdown in the PBA

The highly anticipated PBA Ateneo-La Salle match-up is expected to be as intense and fiercely battled like their unforgettable college basketball games in the past. Former Ateneo de Manila University cagers will square off against the former stalwarts of De La Salle University. The former UAAP basketball stars who turned pro in the PBA will have another chance to relive the intense, sometimes hostile, moments of their UAAP days. Philippines’ most bitter college basketball rivals will have another go at it to relive the finals game of the 2002 UAAP season. Back in 2002, the Ateneo Blue Eagles captured their first UAAP crown in the last 14 years at the expense of De La Salle Green Archers. Interestingly, the core members of that Blue Eagles championship team will once again suit up for their Alma Mater for an exhibition game against fomer Green Archers on Sunday, March 23 at the Big Dome.

Blue EaglesThe Ateneo team will be headlined by Enrico Villanueva, LA Tenorio, Wesley Gonzales, Larry Fonacier, Paolo Bugia, Doug Kramer and Gec Chia. Rounding up the team are Magnum Membrere JC Intal, Macky Escalona and veteran guard Olsen Racela. This Chot Reyes led team is composed mostly of the same pieces that led the Eagles to the UAAP crown in 2002.

Green ArchersMack Cardona, Mike Cortez, RenRen Ritualo and Joseph Yeo will spearhead the Green Archers. Ryan Arana, Junjun Cabatu, JR Aquino, Carlo Sharma, Willie Wilson and Adonis Sta. Maria will also suit up for the Taft-based squad. Veterans Don Allado and Mark Telan completes the Green Archers roster. The Green and White squad will be mentored by Barangay Ginebra’s Jong Uichico.

This will be a very exciting game because the Green Archers will be looking for revenge after Blue Eagles captured the UAAP gold in 2002. I’m looking forward for a nice, fun but competitive game between Ateneo and La Salle this Sunday but of course, as a graduate of La Salle, I’m rooting for my guys to win.

For all the Ateneo and La Salle die-hard fans, this is your chance to relive the moments of Philippine college ball’s most intense and hostile rivals.
