Mark Barriga, the lone boxing representative of Philippines ended his bid for a medal after losing by a point to his Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan.
I had high hopes for this young boxer, though admittedly, it’ still too early to expect a lot for him. After all, he’s just 19 years old playing for the first time in the Games. At his age, he can still learn a lot and he can still qualify for a few more Olympic spots. I hope this loss will not discourage him to continue amateur boxing.
Even with the loss and elimination, I still salute Mark Barriga and the rest of the Philippine Olympic Team. Keep your heads up.
